SHOEBOXES FOR SAILORS
|
Each year Campus Ministry gets involved in this project run by the chaplains in the ports along the St. Lawrence River. Many of the sailors on the merchant ships are poorly paid and live in rough conditions on board ship. The goal is to give a shoebox of gifts to each sailor. There are several ways to get involved. 1. Make up a shoebox of gifts. (See the list below.) 2. Contribute some of the needed articles. There are drop off boxes in C133 and the Laurier rez office. 3. Contribute cash or a cheque made out to St. Mark’s Chapel (marked Operation Shoebox). Committee members will shop for you. 4. Help wrap the boxes in the SUB lobby on Tuesday and Thursday, Dec. 1 and 3 from 10 a.m. – noon. Suggested items: toothpaste, toothbrushes, combs, shaving cream, soap, nail clippers, shampoo, hand cream, pocket book, writing paper or note pads, envelopes, playing cards, mitts, warm socks, scarves or tuques, baseball caps, pens, hand lotion, lip balm, disposable razors, post cards, candy. |
