All full-time Champlain-Lennoxville students are admitted without charge to the John H. Price Sports and Recreation Centre upon presentation of their student identification card at the control desk. The Sports Centre underwent a major overhaul (doubled in size) for the first time since 1975. The $30 million expansion and the modernization renovation of the older portion is almost complete. The complex provides the opportunity for sport and recreational experience to all members of the campus and local community.
The John H. Price Sports and Recreation Centre previously housed a double gymnasium for basketball volleyball and badminton, with bleachers seating 1,200 spectators; a six-lane, 25-metre swimming pool equipped with diving boards and platform; 6 squash courts, 10 outdoor tennis courts including 6 lighted play areas, and facilities for gymnastics, combatives, aerobics, yoga, pilates, fitness, weight-training and indoor jogging. Some highlights of the new expansion include an 800-seat arena that replaced the dated W. B. Scott rink, a double gym, a 4000 square foot fitness room, new changing rooms , and a healthy snack bar with terrace.
Other campus sports facilities include Coulter Field Stadium, a lighted 2000-seat stadium with a FieldTurf® synthetic surface; a meticulously groomed 9-hole golf course, and a number of playing and practice fields. Unique in Canada, the campus offers 7 km of cross-country ski trails, the only one that boosts Fédération internationale de Ski (FIS) certified trails on a university campus. It features groomed trails, both classic and skate style.
The Sports medicine clinic is situated in the Sports Centre and provides services to our student-athletes (free of charge), and to the general student population and community patients at competitive prices. This arrangement and quality of care is rarely found in Quebec Cégeps. The clinic benefits from the most modern equipment available, and is staffed by three certified athletic therapists, an orthopaedic surgeon, physiotherapists and student assistants.
The Health Clinic is also situated in the Sports Centre, and is available to both Champlain and Bishop’s students upon presentation of their Medicare card.
