Course Description

In this beginner’s course, you will cover the following two topics:

TOPIC 1: SELF-PROTECTIONTrembling, a racing heart, sweaty palms—these are warning signs that tell us it’s time to go into self-protection mode.

What you will learn in this course is to trust these signs and find a solution (leave the premises, dare to speak up, etc.).

Contents of this section:
• Knowing how to recognize and avoid risky situations.
• Exercises to develop self-confidence.
• Reflections and discussions on possible attacks.

SECTION 2: SELF-DEFENSE

If I was unable to sense or act, I must now use physical techniques that will enable me to free myself from the attack. Self-defense means using the attacker’s behavior and movements to your own advantage.

Contents of this section:
• Escaping from wrist, clothing, and throat grabs.
• Escaping from body holds.
• Escaping from hair grabs.
• Self-defense on the ground.
• Kiai (knowing how to scream to defend yourself)
• Strikes (hands, feet)
• Introduction to physical controls (arm locks & dislocations)

Offered in a friendly and dynamic atmosphere with the utmost respect. No experience is required to participate in this class, and simple clothing such as a T-shirt, leggings, or sweatshirt is suggested.
