Course Content

This introductory photography course blends technical learning with creative exploration. Participants will:

Get familiar with their camera: menus, settings, and essential equipment such as memory cards, tripods, and USB keys.
Practice core skills: framing, focusing, and composition, both in class and through guided projects.
Explore image quality: understanding resolution, lenses, and how to import, store, and share photos.
Learn exposure fundamentals: apertures, shutter speeds, ISO sensitivity, and the exposure triangle, with hands‑on practice using histograms and light meters.
Experiment with light: capturing images in challenging conditions, playing with contrast, and refining control over exposure.
Engage in creative projects: “The Hunt” “Black on White” and other assignments designed to encourage experimentation with composition, light, and storytelling.
Develop a portfolio: select and present a series of images that demonstrate growth in both technical skill and artistic vision.

By the end of the course, students will have a solid foundation in photography, confidence in manual camera control, and a set of creative projects that showcase their progress.

About the Instructor

Using a photographic and performative approach, Sara A.Tremblay gathers fragments that oscillate between the everyday and the extraordinary of a life lived in the Eastern Townships countryside. Through photography, video, performance and sculpture, she gathers and documents objects, bodies, ephemeral actions, interventions and the transformations she witnesses. Her work is intimately linked to the place where she lives, the territory and the moods that inhabit it.

Sara A.Tremblay (b. Les Éboulements, 1983) has been living in Orford since 2018. Her transition to the countryside greatly inspired her and proved decisive for the rest of her career. She holds an MFA from Concordia University and teaches a few photography classes at the Université de Sherbrooke since 2019. Her work has been exhibited at Musée national des beaux-arts du Québec (2023), Musée Colby-Curtis (2023), Galerie B-312 (2023), Musée des beaux-arts de Sherbrooke (2019), Centre d’artistes Vaste et Vague (2017), Maison des arts de Laval (2017), Fondation Guido Molinari (2015) and YYZ Artists’ Outlet (2014), among others.
