Our very own Mateo Jarquin has won 1st place and the Highest Distinction Prize at the Super Expo-Sciences Hydro-Québec – Provincial Finals in Montreal organized by Réseau Technoscience.
Mateo, a Champlain student, impressed the jury with his innovative project, F.L.E.X. (Fully Leveraged Exo-hand) — a remotely operated robotic hand that mirrors human hand movements in real time using a camera, 3D printing and code.
The invention has real-world applications — from bomb disposal and remote space missions to distance surgery and improved access to healthcare.
Mateo will represent Québec at the Canada-Wide Science Fair in Fredericton this May! Alongside this exciting opportunity, Mateo also received:
- A gold medal in the college division
- A full scholarship for bachelor’s, master’s, and Ph.D. studies within the Université du Québec network
- An opportunity to travel to James Bay to visit the Hydro-Québec installations for a scientific experience.
“The Expo-Sciences changed my life,” says Mateo. “I’ve made new friends, created connections for the future, and I’m excited to represent Québec at the national level.” We have no doubt he’ll change the world!
Congratulations, Mateo — your Champlain community is proud of you, you are an inspiration to all!
