Cougars raise over $8,000 for sarcoma cancer research
Over the course of the Fall semester, the Champlain Students’ Association, in collaboration with the Cougars Athletics teams, raised funds through the annual Pink Games fundraiser. Every one of our sports teams held a special ‘Pink Game’, where pink Cougar merchandise was sold and donations were collected.
This year’s recipient charity was the Sarcoma Research Council of Quebec (SaRC-Q), chosen because of an incredible story of two alumni of Champlain College-Lennoxville, both former CSA executives who have connections with sarcoma cancer for different reasons.
Adam Rowell, class of 2015, is the son of our CSA Manager, Melanie Alden, and is currently battling sarcoma cancer. Dr. Patrick Wang, class of 2012, is an orthopedic oncologist and member of SaRC-Q. At a recognition event on November 28th, the CSA presented a cheque to Dr. Wang, representing SaRC-Q, for over $8,000 – more than double the amount raised through the Pink Games fundraiser in 2023! We are so proud of our community, especially our students, student-athletes, Athletics Director Devon Stewart, and CSA Manager Melanie Alden, for running with this initiative which is sure to make a lasting impact on sarcoma cancer research.
